Crab Drills Days in Full Swing!

Fish Safe is in Sidney working with the crab fleet as they prepare for a busy season.

Over the past two days, man overboard drills have been conducted at the wharf on board crab vessels where a 2-man crew is common.  If one man ends up overboard, what's the plan for the other guy to get his crew mate safely back on board?

That's where our 200 lb dummy is coming in handy!  Lots of practice figuring out how to do this quickly and effectively is going on.

Setting gear is also a big safety issue in this fishery.  Is stern setting a safe practice?  Or is it better to side set?  Everyone's busy testing their assumptions and safety plans before fishing shifts into high gear!
